UFO Sightings Aliens and Bases On The Moon new 2015 Officially, the last Americans walked on the moon during Apollo 17 in 1972. But the newly released film Apollo 18, tapping into this summer's recurrent theme of lunar conspiracies (thanks, Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon) imagines a different scenario: that NASA went up one more time and disastrously made contact with aliens. We spoke with former NASA engineer John Schuessler to get the real story on why Apollo ended at 17. Several science fiction books of the early 20th century, including H.G. Wells' "The First Men in the Moon," take place within a hollow moon inhabited by aliens. In 1970 two Soviet scientists took this seemingly whimsical premise a step further, proposing that the moon is actually a shell-like alien spacecraft built by extraterrestrials with superior technology and intelligence. According to astronomers, the moon-though admittedly enigmatic as far as celestial bodies go-couldn't maintain its mass and gravitational field if it lacked a dense core. Could there be life on the Moon? Whether or not the lunar surface is conducive to the appearance and sustenance of indigenous life forms, many have questioned whether there could be extra-lunar visitors who may have utilized Earth's barren satellite for their advantage. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS Times recently featured a discussion of the claims of Scott Waring, a researcher who utilizes Google Moon to scour the lunar surface for anomalies.
