After living in New Jersey for my entire life, I felt that researching a little bit about the Jersey Devil would be appropriate. As with the Loch-Ness Monster and Bigfoot, the Jersey Devil is a cryptid. This means that there are beliefs in its existence, but not scientific proof to justify the claims. Also with these other cryptids are multiple accusations of the run-ins with the Jersey Devil as well as multiple different descriptions of this interesting creature.The Jersey Devil is believed to have been born in Leeds Point, New Jersey between the years of 1735 and 1857. However, many other stories of the Jersey Devil's existence state that it was born in other parts of the state. All of the stories seem to have unrealistic stories of the birth that would make anyone question if this is real. How is it possible for a human to reproduce a horse-like creature with wings? Or, how can a devil and a witch (both which are paranormal creatures) create something like this? With there being only one "Jersey Devil" in existence, it is difficult to believe that all of the different accusations and descriptions of this creature are for the same being.Since there is no definite answer as to whether or not the Jersey Devil indeed exists, there is also debate over whether or not it is "alive" or "dead." If this devil is dead, how come people have been unable to confirm its existence? If it is alive, how has it managed to survive for over 200 years? Many people are skeptical about the Jersey Devil and feel that it is just a hoax along with Bigfoot and the Loch-Ness monster. In all of my research, I have run across only three or four people who have had reliable, direct encounters with this enigmatic element of the paranormal. In modern times, at least, since 1920 or so, there seems to have been little activity by the Gentry. I don't know why this is but perhaps on their level they were ordered to have less contact with us humans. Contact between them and us has always been pretty much accident anyway.In earlier days, mainly in the 1600s through the 1800s human Gentry contact was rather common and it seems it was quite well documented. These contacts were not always beneficial for humans. Even though there are credible instances of Gentry saving the lives of humans or aiding humans in time of famine or financial or physical or mental stress, there are many more credible instances of open conflict with the Gentry. These conflicts were often initiated by a human farmer or peasant who had done something to upset a Gentry. There are many tales of mysterious mishaps and deaths of humans as the result of contact with a member of the Gentry. This conflict was often brought about by a human or humans disturbing or destroying a Gentry's "turf." Evidently, even cutting the wrong bushes in a Gentry's turf was reason enough for retaliation by the Banshees. Just about all of them were capable of great good or great evil. This is a slightly edited excerpt from one of her letters:"... and when I was around five years old I captured a little man in a backyard tomato patch. The tomato patch belonged to our attic tenant, an old Italian woman. The little man looked very much like the Mickey Rooney of today. He was dressed in handsome, well-made clothes. He had on a white shirt, green vest, green knee-pants, white knee-length socks and shiny black shoes with silver buckles. I grabbed him. He struggled and cussed me out in gibberish. I carted him into the house where my father -- shaken to the core -- ordered me to let him go. The little man scampered out the door and was barely able to climb the few steps leading back down into the yard."If you were a little man, maybe a foot and a half tall, door steps would seem like a series of three-foot cliffs.The following account is of an episode with the Wee People that occurred nearly a hundred years ago. Notice the similarity to the Sacramento woman's encounter. This is excerpted from The Fairy Faith in Celtic Countries by W. Y. Evans Wentz:"There is some of this feeling too in that strange story reported by Lady Archibald Campbell in 1907, when she spoke with an old blind man and his wife living in an Irish glen who claimed to have (caught) a fairy and kept it captive for two weeks -- a little red capped fellow, not two feet high, his hair reddish, his skin very clear but dark in color. The little red cap fitted neatly upon his head. His dress was green, soft to the touch, shorter than a kilt; his boots were as soft as moss over his naked legs. At night we would leave the cage door open, and we would hear it stirring through the house... we fed it on bread and rice and milk out of a cup at the end of a spoon..."But finally it got away and they had had bad luck ever since, the old man said sadly: 'For me, though I've lost my sight, the day I took the Leprechaun I thought no harm, only that we would be made up. I am thinking different now by the way things have gone. Sure, we are among them in God's world who are born to be poor."The Sacramento woman's experience is not unique, by any means. There have been thousands of encounters like this over the years by people all over the world. The Smithsonian Institution has the perfectly preserved body of a sixteen-inch-tall person found when miners blasted through solid rock looking for gold. The little man was discovered sitting on a rock ledge in an ancient cave. An autopsy showed that his anatomy was identical to that of a modern full-grown human. His clothed body may have been entombed in the space for untold millions of years.In a sadder case of contact with the little people, only a few years ago two farmers in Texas were one day doing some work out in a field. The men had their dogs with them and suddenly the dogs started barking furiously at something they had come across in the woods at the end of the field. The farmers thought it was probably just the usual raccoon or an opossum but the dogs were unusually excited, so the men stopped their work and went to see just what the commotion was about.The two men got the shock of their lives when they came up to the hysterically barking dogs. Sitting on a fallen branch between the two dogs was a very small man, about twenty inches tall. The tiny man was sitting there calmly with an expression of complete resignation on his face. He obviously knew he was trapped and could do nothing. The stunned farmers paused for a few moments, still unable to believe what they were seeing -- then the dogs attacked the little man. They tore him to pieces. It was over in seconds.The farmers watched, still unable to act or to believe what they saw. They turned and went back out into the field and silently resumed work. Several times that day, still not able to believe what they had seen, they went back to look at the tiny human body parts and bloody ground. Finally accepting what had happened, they contacted the local sheriff. The two men took the sheriff to the location of the attack. There were patches of blood and signs of violence but all parts and traces of the little man had mysteriously vanished. That was the beginning and end of that particular human-wee people episode. As I said, there have been many.Getting back to another of the lady's letters... one night she was working a late shift in a hospital in California:"I was up late reading, again waiting for the nurses to come in. My door was locked and bolted to be safe, when I caught sight of a bunch of smoke that had gathered over near the door. I wondered how cigarette smoke could bunch up like that when the last cigarette was well out and the smoke gone. So I turned my head for a better look."The smoke seemed to be consolidating. Then a beautiful lady emerged. She had a great mop of golden hair that fell to her mid-back. Her skin was pearly white, her eyes of a pale blue or grey. She had an exquisite body, was about 5 feet 7 inches, and she was dressed in a chiffon-like garment of an ancient Grecian style -- one bare shoulder, a bodice, then three layers of flouncy pleats or gatherings. She may have been bare of foot. As she gracefully went by, she seemed to put a finger to her lips as if to say, 'Shhh, be quiet.'"My heart pounded and shock waves went up and down my body. The lady went to the same window (where I had seen the UFO) and faded through it. Next, a big wave of sleep knocked me back into my pillows."Out of the same window the apparition had gone through, the woman had seen, just nights before, a very large UFO that had flown right over Redwood City, California. The UFO had emitted a machinelike vibration as it passed over the hospital, but only a few people reported the sighting because it was in the early hours of the morning. Ufo Sighting In Isles Of Capri Some Residents Describe Seeing Mysterious Light April 26 2010

NAPLES - Ann Hall didn't think much of the strange light hovering above the water about five houses down from her Isles of Capri home on the evening of March 27.

"It just hovered, but it didn't move," Hall said. "We just wondered what it was."

Then, she saw it again, on March 28. And again, on March 29.

Then, Isles of Capri Fire Rescue District Chief Emilio Rodriguez spotted something similar on the district's weather camera.

Then, an unidentified flying object investigator with a national organization got involved and interviewed the owner of the Capri Fish House, Mike Castellano, near Hall's home. Castellano said he, his friends and his staff had seen similar strange lights, including one about a year ago.

Reported sightings of strange lights on Isles of Capri or off its coast now number at least 10. Hall has seen a light seven times. Castellano saw a light three times. Hall said a friend at church told her she saw three lights on one occasion.

Hall, 70, wrote about the sighting in her weekly column in the Naples Sun-Times.

"It was a stormy night," Hall said of the first sighting. "The sky was black and there were no constellations."

After she wrote the column, she got a call from Morgan Beall, an investigator with Mutual Unidentified Flying Object Network, a group that has investigators across the country. The group's website, mufon.com, maintains a database of reports.

Beall said his investigation is not done, but he is already raising questions about the sightings.

"This is me really digging hard," Beall said. "I try to be really, really sure."

Beall said he believes the light caught by the camera, which was facing west, could be the moon setting. Hall insists the photo was taken at 10:22 p.m. Rodriguez could not be reached for comment late Monday, but Hall said she and Rodriguez both saw the camera's animation showing the object drop into the water on the evening of March 29.

"There's no way the moon was going down on the water at 10:22 p.m.," Hall said.

Hall describes the light as not being a perfect ball, but being a bit "squished" on the top and the bottom. On one of the first three sightings, she saw it drop instantly into the water. The other times she went to bed and missed whatever happened. Hall said she didn't take photos, because she didn't think it was a big deal and doesn't have the necessary equipment, anyway.

On April 20, she saw it again, but this time it wasn't white, as she said it had been before. It was more red and farther away, about a mile. Beall's got a theory on that, too.

"It actually was Venus that sets at a pretty early hour," Hall said. "In March, it was a later hour and this month it's a bit earlier."

Hall insists it wasn't Venus or the moon.

"I know what Venus looks like," Hall said.

Castellano said he and friends saw a light off the coast and what appeared to be jets flying toward it and then all disappearing. He isn't jumping to conclusions.

"As far as being a spaceship, I mean come on," Castellano said. "It was a light in the sky."

Beall watched planes coming into Naples airport from the restaurant and believes, at this point, they may have been what Castellano and others saw.

Either way, Beall has no explanation for the closer encounters Hall and her husband witnessed.

Castellano doesn't much mind the visitor. He said it's OK if it sticks around.

"I have no problems with the light," Castellano said. "For all we know it's a reflection off a cloud."

What do you believe is behind the UFO phenomena?

I have researched the "UFO phenomena" for almost 45 years and have read hundreds and hundreds of sighting reports, analyzed hundreds of documents, seen many many footages of sightings, personally experienced a few sightings which I could not readily explain, interviewed hundreds of eyewitnesses (including some so-called "abductees") and traveled far and wide to many sightings locations in both Japan and the United States, as well as Mexico, Chile and Argentina.

Surprising as it may sound, after all these personal efforts of many years, I still do not have any conclusive answers to the UFO phenomenon.

We have yet to come up with a single physical, solid, hard, tangible, irrefutable evidence to prove that the UFO phenomena are physical manifestations of physical extraterrestrial intelligent entities from beyond this earth. Empirical science, the only discipline available so far that we can rely on to determine a physical existence of a phenomenon, has not come up with any concrete evidence to prove beyond a shadow of doubt that "UFOs" are "nuts-and-bolts" physical craft operated or manipulated and occupied by physical entities from advanced extraterrestrial civilizations. I sometimes think that the entire phenomena could even be some form of religious manifestations or religious manipulations by a power which we cannot comprehend simply by physical pursuit, a power which apparently is capable of presenting an "instant" (but only "temporary") "appearance" or "illusion" of being a physical phenomenon to the observer. Some suggest that it could even be a momentary, holographic instrusion from "parallel intelligence" Some others even suggest that it coud be perhaps some form of "time-slip", interdimensional "accident". We just don't have the answer.

WHY DO YOU BELIEVE THAT UFOS ARE A SATANIC DECEPTION?

I never said that UFOs are satanic deception. However, many highly respected researchers such as John A. Keel, have long come up with analogies between the UFO phenomenon and many aspects of demonology or demonic manifestations. Dr. Jacques Vallee, who is one of the most prominent researchers in this field, has also suggested that the UFO phenomena could be some form of mental or "spiritual" manipulations by what can only be described as unknown non-physical, intelligent (but quite often "mischievous"or even "malevolent") entities for purposes yet incomprehensible to mankind.

I concur with both of these researchers. I believe that occasionally these ultra-dimensional entities may be able to suddenly and temporarily intrude into our physical dimension and appear to be a physical manifestation to the observer. I could be wrong on this.

(Moreover, these last few years I have also come to believe that should there exist "malevolent" types of entities there ought to exist also "benevolent" entities as well. In fact, some religionists seem to believe that 2/3 of all entities are "benevolent" and that 1/3 are the "malevolent" ones)

WHY DID YOU ABANDON THE EXTRATERRESTRIAL HYPOTHESIS?

Just as John A. Keel and Dr. Jacques Vallee have both abandoned their Extraterrestrial Hypothesis of the origins of the UFO phenomena after many years of research, I, too, came up with a conclusion that it is impossible to pursue this phenomenon simply by relying on empirical methodology to prove that "UFOs" are physical extraterrestrial craft operated by advanced extraterrestrial civilization probing our planet. Like I stated, we have yet to come up with any irrefutable, solid evidence to prove that we are being visited by physical entities from beyond this earth. We must be very careful, however, with the use of terminology. Religionists who believe that UFOs are satanic manifestations may accept the term "extraterrestrial" in the sense that these entities, who they often describe as "fallen angelic entities" or "demonic entities", are not of this earth. "Extraterrestrial", therefore, is a relative term.

WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON ALIEN ABDUCTIONS?

The abduction phenomena allegedly experienced by the abductees may be "real" to the abductees. However, when we talk about "reality", "reality" is relative. We still do not totally comprehend what "reality" is. This phenomenon could be some form of yet unknown mass (or individual) psychological phenomenon or it could be a manipulation by some invisible power for reasons unknown at this time.

CAN YOU GIVE US YOUR OPINION ON JOHN LEAR AND WILLIAM COOPER?

John Lear is an accomplished pilot, period. However, beyond that, whatever he has proclaimed in the past regarding "aliens" or "alien bases" simply remains a "story", whether or not one believes that Lear was part of a disinformation campaign to bring ridicule to those who attempted to scrutinize what was or is really going on at bases such as Area 51 in Nevada. Bill Cooper initially was a believer and promoter of the UFO phenomenon. However, he later on reversed his position and began to state that the "government" had manipulated a segment of the population by making them believe in UFOs to create a universal threat in the future as part of a convenient means to cause panic in order to forcefully unify the world into a one-world government.

WHY DID YOU ABANDON YOUR CONSPIRATORIAL VIEWS OF AREA 51?

There simply isn't any substance to any conspiracy theories regarding Area 51. I would like to believe that it is our hard-earned tax dollars that are in the programs at the base. Area 51 conveniently became a "secret base" because of rumors. The accidental creation of a "veil of secrecy" through rumors worked well in the end, especially for the Air Force which needed a convenient "cover story" to discourage any scrutiny of the base and its sensitive R & D programs by the public. The "laughter curtain" became a convenient veil for the Air Force's ongoing programs at the base.

Do you believe there is anything strange at all going on in Dulce, New Mexico including the possibility of an underground base (even if it is not an alien base)?

In the late seventies and early eighties, there were reports of sightings of "UFOs" or lights in the sky over Dulce. I definitely did read some newspaper reports on the sightings while I was living in Arizona. But that does not mean that an "alien base" existed or exists in Dulce. I was in Dulce in 1990 and talked to many residents there and spoke with the Jicarilla Apache Indian Chief in Dulce, although after being detained temporarily by his Police Chief at his office. But, nevertheless, I did not see any visible signs of any bases in or near Dulce.

(Post Script: I revisited Dulce in March of 2007. It was an interesting visit, to say the least.

Those of us who pay attention see this as a common theme, and for the layperson who can recall anything on UFOs, I'm sure you remember the connotation implied.Although the acronym UFO for "U.nidentified F.lying S.aucers" can be found in "declassified Air Force documents," (prior to 1952) it is "Capt. Edward J. Ruppelt," Chief of the Air Force's Project Blue Book who takes credit for making it the popular "official" term, for then, "Flying Saucers."The underlying importance of this action is that the "description" of what was flying in US airspace (as well as all over the world) at the time went from being a "definitive object," i.e., a "flying craft" in the shape of a "flying saucer," to that of an "unknown."There is most certainly a psycho-sociological impact when an "administrative body" (particularly back in the 50's) in essence goes from describing what these objects are, to stating, "they're unidentified."Of course we later would see the Air Force's transparent objective in giving a "conventional explanation" to these "now" unknown objects. Somethings Out There Myrtle Beach

You may have never seen an unidentified flying object over Myrtle Beach, but if you live in this area, chances are you know someone who has. The Grand Strand has long had more than its share of UFO sightings. The creators of Myrtle Beach's newest attraction, "Encounters: UFO Experience", claim there's a good reason, besides this area's 14 million tourists, why they decided to locate it at Broadway at the Beach. "Myrtle Beach is a hot spot for sightings," said Brian Bouquet of Intergalactic Brands. It's true. A quick check of web sites like the Mutual UFO Network or the National UFO Reporting Center shows one report after another of sightings in Myrtle Beach, Cherry Grove, Little River and so on. Bill Barrett, who works a night shift at a Myrtle Beach ocean-front hotel, says he's seen many unexplained lights in the sky, often grouped together. "The geometry is perfect, they're perfectly spaced, perfectly level on the horizon and they're probably about a mile-and-a-half to two miles off the beach," said Barrett. Of the half-dozen sightings Barrett has witnessed over the years, the one that intrigues him the most - and seems the hardest to explain - was the giant orange oval object he saw last November. It seemed to him to be dripping a lava-like fluid. "When that happened, the hair on the back of my neck stood up. I mean, explain that to me, what could that possibly be?" One UFO expert says Myrtle Beach doesn't necessarily get more UFOs than other places. He says the same kinds of sightings are happening all over the world, but people on the Grand Strand seem to do a better job of reporting them. "The willingness to report, investigate, treat fairly. They've done a good job of that here," said UFOlogist Stanton Friedman, who lectured on flying saucers for the grand opening of the UFO exhibit. What are those objects seen in the sky? Where did they come from and how do they operate? Friedman says he can't answer those questions, but he says from all over the world, there are reports of flying objects that defy explanation. Too many reports to dismiss. "They're manufactured and they're not from here. That means they're from someplace else," he said. But Coastal Carolina University astronomy professor Dr. Louis Rubbo says there's a simple, very earthly explanation for most of the sightings of lights in the sky over Myrtle Beach: fighter jets from Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, doing night-time exercises over the ocean. "We're not used to seeing planes flying in formation especially at night and using non commercial lights on them," Rubbo said. Rubbo says our visual perspective from the shoreline makes it appear that the planes are doing very quick, un-earthly maneuvers. He scoffs at the notion that the UFOs seen over Myrtle Beach, or anywhere for that matter, are spacecraft from another planet. He says the biggest problem is distance. Rubbo says the closest habitable planets are in the range of 10 to 100 light years away. In space, light travels at a speed of 186 thousand miles per second, or about 5.9 trillion miles per year. That's the equivalent of one light-year. So a planet that's 10 light-years away would be about 59 trillion miles from Earth. A spacecraft traveling at the speed of light, which the laws of physics says is impossible, would need a decade of travel just to get here. And that's the closest habitable planet. "The distances between stars is so immense that traveling between them is very difficult, and the probability of an alien life form making that trip is pretty small," Rubbo said. But if Rubbo has an answer for lights in the sky, that doesn't explain everything, according to the South Carolina director of Mufon, the Mutual UFO Network. Cheryl Ann Gilmore says one night last year, a tourist reported seeing not just lights, but an unexplained object floating over her Myrtle Beach hotel. "She noticed that when this object passed over the street light, that it reflected up on the bottom on what she thought was just an orange light, but it was a craft and she was amazed. She said it was almost 3 stories tall," Gilmore said. Gilmore says it's frustrating that there are no easy answers and anyone who claims to have it all figured out isn't worth listening to. If pressed for an explanation about UFOs over Myrtle Beach, Gilmore has her own thoughts. "Possibility they might be from another planet, possibly they might be time travelers, they might be from another dimension. Some of them might be our military doing exercises out over the ocean," Gilmore said. So the debate goes on, over what those UFOs are and why Myrtle Beach sees more of them than most other places.
