66 Years later on the 6 month this happens to me.
9:12 p.m I was walking to my car just after dusk when I immediately saw multiple glowing red spheres floating above the trees in a zig zag formation Northwest. I come from a family (4th generation) of fire fighters and was raised to never panic and always assess the situation. However, I panicked. I have never seen UFO's nor did I really believe in them but for some reason, I knew right away these were UFO's.
I threw down my bags on the side of the street and pulled out my Gopro Hero 3. The Gopro is horrible in low light but these spheres reminded me of burning red flares (I assume from the reflection of the sun). They were not planes because of the way they defied gravity and they did not follow conventional flight trajectory or emit any sound. They were beautiful.
I was alone and wanted to share this experience so I called my friend SNAIL (a good child-hood friend whose real name is Gary).
The brightest sphere assumed the top of the triangle where it remained as a "over watch." Other UFO's tilted under the top sphere and started to blink almost mimicking stars. What I wish the Gopro captured (you can kind of see them) was the sphere's under the triangle obstructed by the trees. These UFO's were the most active ones flying extremely low to the ground and very sporadic. At this point, I was pretty shaken up.
The lower spheres gradually elevated, joined and created a new formation, a star pattern. However, those dam trees obstructed the lower half of it so around 2:52 you can make out the top half of it. They became unified. I then saw one by one, flicker out of sight. The "over watch," or the one that remained in the center of the formation, was the last to leave and burned the brightest went it left.
I wish I would have kept the camera still and film the exit but I couldn't control myself. I knew they were leaving and wanted to follow in my car (dumb idea I KNOW).
I don't want to sound loony on this comment but during the whole thing I knew they were watching me. I didn't feel any hostile intentions. I was humbled and shocked by the mass numbers. When I think of UFO's i think of ONE UFO farting around in the sky. For them to form such geometric formations and patterns so close to our capital, left me enlightened.
I hope I'm not the only one who saw this. After they were gone, I saw multiple airplanes circle around the area.

It is with great sadness that I report the passing of my friend Richard Motzer today. Minutes ago I received an e-mail from his beloved wife Nancy who shared this terrible news.
I sought out Richard several months ago and he agreed to do a series of interviews about his research into the "Phoenix Lights" UFO events specifically, Ufology in general and by default his life overall. During this period we became friends, and when he was diagnosed with cancer a few months back he shared this with me.
His attitude in the face of this terrible revelation was inspiring; he took it on the chin and chose to move forward with a very positive attitude. His stance moved me greatly and I complimented him on his courage and dignity.
Richard Motzer will forever be tied to the Phoenix Lights UFO event of March 13th, 1997 as he was the original, lead investigator of the case for MUFON, and was the first to discern that "the infamous 10:00 videos were of flares" and not of the massive UFO(s) that was witnessed by thousands in the eight oclock hour.
As the investigation progressed there was a lot of animosity felt by folks with opposing views; Richard was criticized for his findings and many felt he was crass and often times belligerent.
The man I came to know was kind, considerate, ethical and intelligent; he was strong-willed, spoke his mind and wasnt afraid to give as good as he got. Moreover, I came to admire his work as a diligent researcher, and to follow the evidence no matter where it lead, even if it wasnt popular amongst his peers.
Richard, your memory will live on not only as a loving husband, father and friend, but also as a valued asset and truthseeker into the conundrum of Ufology.
Rest in peace....

He succeeds retiring international director Clifford Clift who lived in Greeley, Colo.
MUFON has a network of 800 trained and certified investigators who scientifically research reports of unidentified flying objects. The reports are compiled in MUFON's data base of more than 33,000 sightings. It also publishes the monthly MUFON Journal.

Although founded in 1969 in Illinois as the Midwest UFO Network, the organization has been based for years in Colorado and other western states.
"This is a perfect location for MUFON because we're centrally located," said MacDonald. He estimated the organization has a few hundred members in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.
MacDonald, 65, said he's been hooked on the subject since he read his first book about flying saucers as an eight-year old.
"Ninety-two percent of the the UFO reports can be easily explained, but its that eight percent that you can't explain that keeps you coming back," said MacDonald. He said the organization logs an average of 600 UFO reports a month. A licensed pilot, MacDonald said he's never seen a UFO.
