April 8, 2015 - UNITED STATES - Humanity is on the verge of discovering alien life, high-ranking NASA scientists say.
"I think we're going to have strong indications of life beyond Earth within a decade, and I think we're going to have definitive evidence within 20 to 30 years," NASA chief scientist Ellen Stofan said Tuesday (April 7) during a panel discussion that focused on the space agency's efforts to search for habitable worlds and alien life.
"We know where to look. We know how to look," Stofan added during the event, which was webcast live. "In most cases we have the technology, and we're on a path to implementing it. And so I think we're definitely on the road."
Former astronaut John Grunsfeld, associate administrator for NASA's Science Mission Directorate, shared Stofan's optimism, predicting that signs of life will be found relatively soon both in our own solar system and beyond.
"I think we're one generation away in our solar system, whether it's on an icy moon or on Mars, and one generation [away] on a planet around a nearby star," Grunsfeld said during Tuesday's event.
MANY HABITABLE ENVIRONMENTS
Recent discoveries suggest that the solar system and broader Milky Way galaxy teem with environments that could support life as we know it, Grunsfeld said.
For example, oceans of liquid water slosh beneath the icy shells of the Jupiter moons Europa and Ganymede, as well as that of the Saturn satellite Enceladus. Oceans covered much of Mars in the ancient past, and seasonal dark streaks observed on the Red Planet's surface today may be caused by salty flowing water.
Further, NASA's Curiosity rover has found carbon-containing organic molecules and "fixed" nitrogen, basic ingredients necessary for Earth-like life, on the Martian surface.
Farther afield, observations by NASA's Kepler space telescope suggest that nearly every star in the sky hosts planets - and many of these worlds may be habitable. Indeed, Kepler's work has shown that rocky worlds like Earth and Mars are probably more common throughout the galaxy than gas giants such as Saturn and Jupiter.
And just as the solar system is awash in water, so is the greater galaxy, said Paul Hertz, director of NASA's Astrophysics Division.
The Milky Way is "a soggy place," Hertz said during Tuesday's event. "We can see water in the interstellar clouds from which planetary systems and stellar systems form. We can see water in the disks of debris that are going to become planetary systems around other stars, and we can even see comets being dissipated in other solar systems as [their] star evaporates them."
LOOKING FOR LIFE
Hunting for evidence of alien life is a much trickier proposition than identifying potentially habitable environments. But researchers are working steadily toward that more involved and ambitious goal, Stofan and others said.
For example, the agency's next Mars rover, scheduled to launch in 2020, will search for signs of past life and cache samples for a possible return to Earth for analysis. NASA also aims to land astronauts on Mars in the 2030s - a step Stofan regards as key to the search for Mars life.
"I'm a field geologist; I go out and break open rocks and look for fossils," Stofan said. "Those are hard to find. So I have a bias that it's eventually going to take humans on the surface of Mars - field geologists, astrobiologists, chemists - actually out there looking for that good evidence of life that we can bring back to Earth for all the scientists to argue about."
NASA is also planning out a mission to Europa, which may launch as early as 2022. The main goal of this 2.1 billion mission will be to shed light on the icy moon's potential habitability, but it could also search for signs of alien life: Agency officials are considering ways to sample and study the plumes of water vapor that apparently erupt from Europa's south polar region.
In the exoplanet realm, the agency's James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), an 8.8 billion instrument scheduled to launch in 2018, will scope out the atmospheres of nearby "super-Earth" alien planets, looking for gases that may have been produced by life.
JWST will scan the starlight that passes through the air of super-Earths, which are more massive than our own planet but significantly less so than gaseous worlds such as Uranus and Neptune. This method, called transit spectroscopy, will likely not work for potentially habitable Earth-size worlds, Hertz said.
Searching for biosignature gases on small, rocky exoplanets will instead probably require direct imaging of these worlds, using a "coronagraph" to block out the overwhelming glare of their parent stars, Hertz added.
NASA's potential Wide-Field Infrared Survey Telescope, which may launch in the mid-2020s if given the official go-ahead, would include a coronagraph for exoplanet observations. - SPACE.

The international space station (ISS) partners are currently discussing a possibility to stage an extraordinary photo opportunity in March that would yield photo and video images of the space station with all current U.S., RUSSIAN, European and Japanese spacecraft docked at the outpost, the press service of the RUSSIAN FEDERAL SPACE AGENCY ROSCOSMOS said.If all goes well and space shuttle Discovery arrives at the International Space Station in late February, there will be a distinctive configuration: all of the international partners will have a vehicle docked to the completed ISS.NASA advanced a proposal to put three astronauts in one of the Russia's Soyuz capsules that are docked to the station, have them undock and fly around to take pictures of the entire complex. Station skipper Scott Kelly and Russian flight engineers Alexander Kaleri and Oleg Skripochka would climb aboard their Soyuz spacecraft and then back away to a vantage point where they could capture images of the entire outpost. The photo shooting would be carried out only if all higher-priority work is completed by the arrival of Discovery shuttle, reports RIA NOVOSTI. Distance: One mile or less
Terrain: Swimming pool

Summary: Mid-Day UFO give or take a few center of Swimming pool Michigan in May 2005
Report:
A group of 3 of us, in person - a mechanized export proprietor, my brother a Firefighter/Paramedic, and a worry partner were roving from Saugatuck, MI on a 38' Chris Design yacht, passage Swimming pool Michigan on the way to our wharf settle south of Chicago in Burnham, IL (CroissantMarina.info). This was a 15 hour corner and we were about 6 hours inside the bother in the past we were circled by an F4 jet several era at very low flat. This jet was so next-door we can source see the pilot in the cockpit (about 40 feet over the water). I do not spill the beans if this is united to what happened 30 account unconventional but we all found it very odd to see an Air Force jet in that area steal a earlier scrutinize at us. Of all era I've been on the lake I've never seen a fighter jet or anything odd, and I've been out at hand as 1994.
In due course the jet preoccupied and was never to be seen again. On the subject of 30 account unconventional we noticed an odd looking object to our starboard side (we were roving SSW at the time). This object was zero any of us had always seen and didn't scrutinize the same as the methodically positive UFO either. It was not a cigar or disc and it was not a triangle. It was the strangest looking thing. It was attractively black and near looked the same as a group of legos a young man threw united, wherever the hunger rectangular shape had odd clippings the same as steps but attractively split. It's very under the weather to second opinion. In attendance were no lights, no sounds. Sincere entirety muffle. We idled down and proceeded to the bow to carry out this thing. It was hanging beyond the water, about 10 feet beyond the 1' breaker caps. It was about 500 feet life-size, near the same as a surprising building on it's side directionless over the water. We were about 6 blocks to 1 mile available.
Whilst about 10 account of opinion this thing it began to move our way, and we were all feat a bit nervous being that we were in pious waters and all colleague. Come to light of cellular range and sloppy chances of a carnival VHF disturb ask for, our judgment were suitable cross honestly. I wait for we settle feared this object when we didn't spill the beans what it was or why it was successive at hand. I hopped act of kindness in the sphere of the accommodate to steal the tiller and threw her port & starboard engines in itinerary at plow to get regulate to travel emotional out of at hand. I accept to spill the beans what I was seeing but I was way to nervous to see what would be located if I let it blow next-door. At that point in time I in person, nap with our worry partner and my brother, observed this silly looking thing move corner to corner the water from our starboard side to personal in anterior of our bow (charge the extremely 6 blocks or so available from us and holding the extremely 10' suggest over the water). Like really dazed us was the speed of the object. It traveled an all in the mind 10 oceanic miles in about 2 seconds. In attendance was settle a hunger black lowlight corner to corner the horizon and then it congested and settle sat at hand in anterior of us. I dropped the dexterity act of kindness to hermaphrodite and settle sat at hand as we all discussed what the heck was experience. Seconds unconventional it jumped unerringly act of kindness to our starboard side wherever it was before and again settle hovered over the water. That was satisfactory, we throttled up and began footer SSW again, recurrently observing the object as we moved on. In due course we lost the object in the seat and never saw it again.
The date was, for sure, May 22nd, 2005. That's the abandoned time we always through this bother.
We had no cameras, claim no photos, but it happened. The bother was being through for a exclusive work out, to move a make I bought at Gradient Marine in Douglas, MI to my occupant wharf. It wasn't a act toward breeze. In June of this see I am recurring to the GPS coordinates wherever this happened, level saved on my GPS. I'll be departure act of kindness with a join family and conceivably my brother again if he can join it. My hope is to see this again, even though it's been 5 lifetime now, ya never spill the beans. This time we're bringing camcorders and cameras.

Chart Comparing The Smallest Known Exoplanets With Mars And Earth.
Sara Seager, a researcher from MIT, is calling for scientists to keep an open mind when it comes picking exoplanets to target in the search for alien life. Astronomers tend to focus on Earth-like exoplanets, but life may exist on exoplanets and even exomoons that aren't Earth-like at all. It may sound like a bold suggestion, but it's not so far fetched an idea. We might see a shift in the way we look for alien like. As far as we know, Earth is the only planet with life. Our planet is teeming with animal, plant, and especially microbial life. And we owe that plethora of life to the Earth's orbit. We're in the Solar System's sweet spot where water exists in a liquid form on the surface and the Sun's light is able to promote and sustain life. It's a zone astronomers have come to call the "Goldilocks zone." The Earth is also the right size for life as we know it. Unlike Mars, our planet has managed to hold on to its life-sustaining atmosphere and we have a wonderful protective magnetic field thanks to our dense iron core. Since we're all we know about life in the Universe, it's natural that we extend the case of Earth outwards and apply it to other bodies. But so far we haven't found a twin Earth. The closest possible Earth-like exoplanets are nearly twice as big as our world and don't, as far as we know, have the same composition. Most of the exoplanets we know about are more similar to Jupiter, which we know can't support Earth life. And there are some other really strange bodies out there. Take hot Jupiters, for example, Jupiter-sized planets that orbit their star closer than Mercury orbits the Sun, and rogue planets that drift through space without a parent star.
1,235 Exoplanet Candidates And Their Host Stars, All Discovered By The Kepler Telescope.
It's the amazing diversity of exoplanets that has led Seager to suggest we stop focussing on Earth-like planets in the search for life. That we're finding so many different kinds and sizes of planets is teaching astronomers a lot about how planets form and migrate within their own systems. So why should we apply rules from our system to theirs? Seager's paper argues that looking for life on Earth-like planets alone is too narrow a view. By looking exclusively for Earth-like planets, we might be excluding or ignoring some really interesting potentially life-supporting exoplanets. The search for life is one where it doesn't necessarily pay to be picky; astronomers can only hope to get in depth looks at a handful of exoplanets in the foreseeable future. It's probably a good idea to explore a variety of planets instead of one type. We'd do well, says Seager, to extend the parameters of the habitable zone. The conventional definition assumes a planet in this zone will have an Earth-like atmosphere dominated by nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and water vapor. But what about huge, cold planets that could hold on to gaseous molecular hydrogen, a powerful greenhouse gas that could make a planet warm enough for liquid water to exist on its surface well outside the star's traditionally defined habitable zone. There could also be dry, rocky planets whose atmospheres have much less water vapor than Earth's, but enough to sustain life. There's also the argument that life on exoplanets or exomoons won't be the kind of life that we have on Earth, that is carbon-based life that needs liquid water to survive. That scientists have found life around the hydrothermal vents deep in the ocean far from the Sun's reach suggests life could thrive off different ingredients than we have on Earth. There could be lifeforms that use liquid methane like we use water, a gas that stays in a liquid form at much colder temperatures than water. Looking for different building blocks for life is another way to extend and expand the habitable zone.
A False Colour View Of The Liquid Ethane Or Methane Lakes On Titan's Surface.
So while an extended habitable zone and broader scope for "life" might seem like a far cry in an already impossible endeavour of finding aliens on exoplanets, it's not really that far fetched. It's worth remembering that astronomers only found the first exoplanet in 1995. Since then the number of confirmed exoplanets has risen to around 800 with thousands more candidates. And only a handful of those are Earth-like. Astronomers have started measuring the atmospheres of some of these alien worlds with the Hubble Space Telescope, a task the James Webb Space Telescope will pick up when it launches in 2018 (or so). Shouldn't we pick a variety of planets for these telescopes' observations and not just one type? Seager's proposal of expanding the habitable zone also has some interesting implications for our own Solar System. If planets or moons in faraway orbits could host the ingredients for life, or if life can use different building blocks, there are some good candidates for alien life in our own cosmic backyard. If I've said it once I've said it a hundred times: it's time we go fishing on Europa.

Commento of Oliviero Mannucci: Nooo! This is not the right way to do it. If we want if there are aliens, first of all we have to look better the skies of our house. Then you will need to study not only what is visible to our eyes. You need to go beyond our sensory capacity!

Welcome! "Alien Life" tracks the latest discoveries and thoughts in the various elements of the famous Drake Equation. Here's today's news:
g STARS - Scientists using NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory have discovered evidence of energetic plumes - particles that extend 300,000 light years into a massive cluster of galaxies. The plumes are due to explosive venting from the vicinity of a supermassive black hole, and they provide dramatic new evidence of the influence a black hole can have over intergalactic distances. See article.
g ABODES - Life may have had a tough time getting started in the ancient environment that left its mark in the Martian rock layers examined by NASA's Opportunity rover. The most thorough analysis yet of the rover's discoveries reveals the challenges life may have faced in the harsh Martian environment. See article.
g LIFE - Tracks found in Scotland look to be from an ancient water scorpion as big as a kitchen table. If the analysis is right, it is the first evidence of the creature coming ashore. See article.
g INTELLIGENCE - Research is showing the power of expectations, that they have physical - not just psychological - effects on your health. Scientists can measure the resulting changes in the brain, from the release of natural painkilling chemicals to alterations in how neurons fire. See article.
g MESSAGE - Among the most important SETI work is being done at Harvard University. The Harvard SETI home page is here and discusses the Radio Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence, The Arecibo Search for Early Hydrogen and Optical SETI.
g COSMICUS - European Space Agency government ministers will be asked to approve a diverse package of space-hardware programs worth a total of 9.05 billion euros (10.6 billion) when they meet today in Berlin. See article.
g LEARNING - Here's something cut for the kids: U.S. Navy Capt. Michael Foreman, set to fly to the International Space Station aboard NASA's STS-120 shuttle flight, will appear in the television program "Trading Spaces: Boys vs. Girls" to assist in transforming a typical 10-year-old New Jersey boy's bedroom into a Martian landscape. See article.
g IMAGINING - There are several species in the Star Trek universe that look exactly like humans. The unlikely fact that life on different planets has taken a similar, if not the same direction was sufficiently explained in The Next Generation episode "The Chase." In this key episode to the Star Trek universe, Captain Picard's crew finds evidence that four billion years ago the first human civilization explored our galaxy, and they were disappointed because they found themselves alone. To preserve their heritage, they spread encoded DNA fragments across many Class-M planets throughout the galaxy, thereby triggering a development similar to their own. Aside from the evolution schedule the DNA fragments, correctly assembled, contain a message to their descendants, namely humans, Klingons, Cardassians, Romulans and all the other humanoid races of the galaxy that are in some way related to each other. As fascinating is this theory, a couple of problems remain. See article.
g AFTERMATH - Book alert: As many Earthlings already know -including more than 2 million computer users with firsthand experience - our best hope for finding extraterrestrial intelligence might just lie with an ingenious little screensaver. So it's not surprising that "Beyond Contact: A Guide to SETI and Communicating with Alien Civilizations" (by Brian S. McConnell), an introduction to searching for and communicating with intelligent life, begins with some of the details behind UC Berkeley's groundbreaking, massively distributed SETI@home project, which processes intergalactic noise for pennies on the teraflop. But that's just the start of the story. Inventor and software developer Brian McConnell continues with an overview of whether and why we might find something out there, who's doing what to look for it (including the folks at Berkeley), and - once some ET picks up on the other end - what we might say and how we might say it. This last problem, which occupies the final half of the book, proves to be the most thought provoking, and McConnell has put together a methodical, nuts-and-bolts walkthrough of both the challenges involved and how binary code might be enlisted to solve them. See reviews.

Mercury may be first on most lists of planets, but it's easily the least explored of all the inner planets. The heat and immense gravitational pull of the nearby Sun has made visiting Mercury difficult, but fly-bys from NASA's Mariner 10 in the late 1970s gave us the first close-up glimpses. Mercury then remained unvisited until 2004 when NASA launched the" MErcury Surface, Space ENvironment, GEochemistry, and Ranging" (MESSENGER) probe. MESSENGER has been orbiting Mercury since 2011, taking photos and running analyses to tackle some of our deepest questions about the smallest and closest planet to the Sun. " The planet Mercury, as photographed by MESSENGER. Image credit: NASA/Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory/Carnegie Institution of Washington"MERCURY'S PASTOne mystery for MESSENGER is why Mercury is so dense. The four inner planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars) are all comprised of a dense metallic core surrounded by a rocky mantle and crust - but Mercury is unusual in having far more metal than rock. Mercury's metal core is estimated to make up 75% of the planet's radius, but Earth's is just 10%. " The core of Mercury makes up the majority of the entire planet, but the Earth's core is comparably tiny. Figure courtesy of NASA and APL."Many theories trying to explain this told of a violent past for Mercury - perhaps the rocky surface had been smashed away by massive impacts, or perhaps it was boiled away by the Sun in its temperamental younger days. MESSENGER rendered these theories unlikely by studying gamma rays emitted by naturally occurring radioactive elements on Mercury and finding a high potassium : uranium (K:U) ratio. Potassium is more volatile than uranium and the extreme conditions proposed by both of these theories would have vaporised it first, lowering the K:U ratio. As a result, it seems Mercury was subjected to no harsher conditions than any of the other inner planets1 and may instead have formed from different material in the pre-planetary solar system and so never had a thick mantle. Discovering precisely what these differences might be will take more research not only on Mercury but on other planets and moons as well, so the entire story of the origins of the solar system as we know it can be pieced together. THE PANTHEON FOSSAE " The Pantheon Fossae surrounding the Apollodorus crater on Mercury, photographed by the MESSENGER spacecraft. Image credit: NASA/Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory/Carnegie Institution of Washington"The Mariner 10 flybys left huge swathes of Mercury unimaged, so there were bound to be a few surprises in store when MESSENGER arrived with better imaging equipment and more time to use them than Mariner 10 had. One surprise came in the form of the Pantheon fossae, formerly nicknamed The Spider. Fossae are long narrow trenches occasionally found on other planets, and the Pantheon has over 200 of them radiating outward from a centre point which is close to a medium-sized crater. The whole structure was found near the centre of the Caloris basin, a vast impact crater filled in with cooled lava. The name Pantheon refers to the Roman temple with the same name which has a central hole in the domed roof and a radial pattern around it. The central crater is named Apollodorus after the likely architect of the Roman Pantheon. It would be tempting to think that the impact from Apollodorus caused the Caloris basin to fracture like cracks in a windscreen, thus forming the fossae. However there are a number of similar structures seen on Venus and none of them have a central crater like Apollodorus, so it is likely (but not certainly) a coincidence. What's less certain is whether the positioning of the fossae in the centre of the Caloris basin is crucial or just a coincidence. It could be that the fossae are an outward expression of an upswelling3 in the mantle of Mercury which was disturbed by the impact which resulted in the Caloris basin. In the absence of higher resolution images (researchers are currently analysing the structures on an almost pixel-by-pixel basis), consensus in the scientific community may be a long way off. " Artist's impression of the MESSENGER spacecraft in orbit around Mercury. Image credit: NASA/Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory/Carnegie Institution of Washington"WHAT'S NEXT FOR MERCURY? NASA hopes MESSENGER will continue taking readings and photographs until 2015, which happens to be the expected launch date of a new probe. This one is called BepiColombo and is a joint enterprise between the European and Japanese space agencies. Maybe one day we will send a rover like Mars' Curiosity, however the extreme conditions on Mercury make this unlikely to become a reality soon. In the meantime, the images and data collected by MESSENGER may take many more years to analyse. Mercury has surprised us many times before and will probably do so again! High-resolution images of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko pass on a unmatched, rich world. ESA's Rosetta spacecraft into at its destination about a month ago and is at this moment accompanying the comet as it progresses on its means on the way to the inward bound solar system. Scientists incorporate now analyzed images of the comet's accept hectic by OSIRIS, Rosetta's technological imaging system, and billed undeniable special regions, also of which is rigid by special morphological uniqueness. This assessment provides the answer for a microscopic technological explanation of 67P's accept. It was presented Monday at the European Stellar Science Convention 2014. "Never before incorporate we seen a cometary accept in such detail", says OSIRIS Nucleus Party worker Holger Sierks from the Max Planck Union for Stellar Categorization Cram (MPS) in Germany. In guaranteed of the images, one pixel corresponds to 75 centimeters vary on the interior. "It is a attraction transcribe, we incorporate an unprecedented unmodified to map a comet", he adds.
Among areas under enemy control by cliffs, depressions, craters, boulders or level parallel grooves, 67P displays a throng of divergent terrains. In the role of guaranteed of these areas sturdy to be short, others arrive on the scene to be shaped by the comet's activity. As OSIRIS images of the comet's daze suggestion, the wipe up that 67P casts happening space is emitted stage.
This early assessment provides the answer for a microscopic technological explanation of the comet's accept, but a substantial computation of work between above microscopic OSIRIS images and data from other Rosetta instruments deceit momentary to catch sight of what also responsibility represents in rider of their grain and progression. One recent image from the OSIRIS narrow-angle camera is similarly exposed current.
Intelligent cliffs and peak boulders are evident in this image hectic by OSIRIS on 5 September 2014 from a cache of 62 kilometres from comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. The moved out equip of the image shows a side feeling of the comet's border, spell the defensible is the switch of its spray. One pixel corresponds to 1.1 metres. "This first map is, of course, solitary the start of our work", says Sierks. "At this anxiety, nothing truely understands, how the morphological variations we are at this moment witnessing came to be." As each one 67P and Rosetta journey closer to the Sun in the close months, the OSIRIS feel momentum transmit the accept looking for changes. In the role of the scientists do not doubt the borderlines of the comet's regions to argue hugely, level indefinable transformations of the accept may assess to school, how cometary activity twisted such a breathtaking world.
Contiguous weekend, on 13 and 14 September 2014, the maps momentum delay functional insights as Rosetta's Lander Partaker and the Rosetta orbiter scientists political party in Toulouse to catch sight of a basic and replacement landing site from the earlier preselection of five candidates.
Rosetta is an ESA trade by means of hand-outs from its follower states and NASA. Rosetta's Philae lander is provided by a syndicate led by DLR, MPS, CNES and ASI. Rosetta momentum be the first trade in history to rendezvous by means of a comet, show it as it orbits the Sun, and deploy a lander to its accept.
The technological imaging system OSIRIS was built by a syndicate led by the Max Planck Union for Stellar Categorization Cram (Germany) in assistance by means of CISAS, School of Padova (Italy), the Laboratoire d'Astrophysique de Marseille (France), the Instituto de Astrof'isica de Andalucia, CSIC (Spain), the Specialist Bolster Role of the European Universe Agency (The Netherlands), the Instituto Nacional de T'ecnica Aeroespacial (Spain), the Universidad Polit'echnica de Madrid (Spain), the Diverge of Physics and Astronomy of Uppsala School (Sweden), and the Union of Computer and Network Manufacturing of the TU Braunschweig (Germany). OSIRIS was economically supported by the national bracket agencies of Germany (DLR), France (CNES), Italy (ASI), Spain (MEC), and Sweden (SNSB) and the ESA Highbrow Directorate.

Welcome! "Alien Life" tracks the latest discoveries and thoughts in the various elements of the famous Drake Equation. Here's today's news:g STARS - Like messages in a bottle, grains inside meteorites carry clues to the history of our solar system. Some of these tiny crystals are older than the solar system itself. A new study has determined the age of a set of grains from one meteorite. The results seem to indicate a galactic disturbance may have triggered the formation of our solar system. See article.g ABODES - Iron and manganese compounds, in addition to sulfate, may play an important role in converting methane to carbon dioxide and eventually carbonates in the Earth's oceans, according to a team of researchers looking at anaerobic sediments. These same compounds may have been key to methane reduction in the early, oxygenless days of the planet's atmosphere. See article.g LIFE - When we think of extrasolar Earth-like planets, the first tendency is to imagine weird creatures like Jar Jar Binks, Chewbacca, and, if those are not bizarre enough, maybe even the pointy-eared Vulcan, Spock, of Star Trek fame. But scientists seeking clues to life on extrasolar planets are studying various biosignatures found in the light spectrum leaking out to Earth to speculate on something more basic and essential. See article.g INTELLIGENCE - Putative extraterrestrial planets are being discovered at the rate of one a month. A subset of these exist in the liquid water zone and are thus capable of evolving life similar to that with which we are familiar. While perhaps not common, the development of technological civilizations seems possible for some of these worlds. If we are typical, the evolution of technological civilizations proceeds from a condition where physical laws are unknown to a state where the limits imposed by those laws are reached within a few hundred years. These limits (molecular nanotechnology on solar system scales) allow the construction of Dyson shell supercomputers ("Matrioshka Brains') with thought capacities a trillion trillion times greater than that of a human brain and longevities measured in billions to trillions of years. Natural selection at stellar and galactic scales would, over time, eliminate any civilizations lacking these prodigious capabilities. We must consider that astronomical observations such as the missing baryonic dark matter and the gravitational microlensing observations may indicate that many such entities exist and that our galaxy is currently a Kardashev Type III civilization. See article.g COSMICUS - Long-duration travel in space has many ill-effects for humans, including muscle and bone loss. Some scientists believe that astronauts on a mission to Mars could suffer loss of muscle so severe that they would be unable to walk upon their return to Earth. However, new research may provide a solution that will keep future explorers safe and healthy. See article.g LEARNING - Here's a neat classroom activity courtesy of NASA: "Interstellar Real Estate". The lesson examines what makes Earth the perfect home for life as we know it as students explore the orbital characteristics a planetary home needs to support Earth-like life forms.g AFTERMATH - Here's an intriguing article that is frequently referenced in astrobiology papers: "The Consequences of a Discovery: Different Scenarios" by astronomer Ivan Almar. Boeing successful sky-dropped the proposed Crew Space Transportation (CST)-100 space capsule from an 11,000 feet altitude this week in Nevada making yet another milestone in its effort to to ferry up to seven crewmembers at a time, cargo or a combination of people and cargo to the International Space Station and other destinations in low-earth orbit such as Bigelow Next-Generation Commercial Space Station, private inflatable orbital habitats [PHOTOS]. The air drop test of the CST-100 is the first in a series of demonstrations to prove the design of the vehicle's landing system. More tests are planned this spring and summer. Bigelow Aerospace built the test article air dropped this week and will continue to be a part of the testing. NASA will pay Boeing up to 112.9 million under a Space Act Agreement signed last year. The space agency pays the company as it accomplishes key milestones in the vehicle's development. The successful completion of the parachute drop test campaign will trigger a 4.8 million payment from the government, according to the accord, cites "SPACEFLIGHT NOW". The commercial spacecraft company announced last summer that it planned to boost the space capsule to orbit aboard a United Launch Alliance Atlas-V 412 (configuration) sometime in late 2015 or 2016. Boeing selected the Atlas V 412 version, which is the core rocket configured with a single solid-rocket booster and a dual engine Centaur upper stage, for the test and demonstration phase.NASA is seeking a commercial provider to provide transportation for International Space Station crews by 2017. Boeing aspires to be a primary commercial ferry to orbit by the target date. Crewed flights of the CST-100 will initially return to Earth at White Sands Missile Range, N.M. The test launches and NASA ISS flights are expected to be based at Cape Canaveral, Florida. Private space advocates are urging Boeing and United Launch Alliance to launch private commercial spaceflights of the CST-100 aboard the Atlas-412 on a new commercial launch pad at Wallops Island, Virginia.

I don't know satellites? Welcome! "Alien Life" tracks the latest discoveries and thoughts in the various elements of the famous Drake Equation. You may notice that this and future entries are shorter than usual; career, family and book deal commitments have forced me to cut back some of my projects. Now, here's today's news:
g ABODES - High-resolution data from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter's CRISM instrument has been used to create a new online map of Mars. The map allows visitors to see Mars' progression through wet, volcanic and dry eras. See article.
g LIFE - When Charles Darwin published "On the Origin of Species" in 1859, he gave a convincing account of how life has evolved over billions of years from simple microbes to the complexity of the Earth's biosphere today. But he pointedly left out how life got started. One might as well speculate about the origin of matter, he quipped. Today scientists have a good idea of how matter originated in the Big Bang, but the origin of life remains shrouded in mystery. See article.
g COSMICUS - NASA Ames was nearly shut down two years ago, but is now poised for major growth, according to a presentation made last month by Director Pete Worden to NASA Ames employees. See article.
g LEARNING - Here's the ultimate Web site for an introduction to astrobiology. "Astrobiology: The Living Universe" is a comprehensive and educational guide to life on Earth and beyond. This site features sections on the chemical origin of life, evolution, planetary biology, the search for extraterrestrial life, supporting humans in space and exobiology. See article.
g AFTERMATH - Book alert: "Many Worlds: The New Universe, Extraterrestrial Life, and the Theological Implications, by Steven J. Dick (editor), is a provocative collection examining science's impact on theology. Based on a 1998 conference sponsored by the Templeton Foundation, this collection of essays opens with the observation that the Copernican revolution looks insignificant when compared to the discoveries made about the earth and the universe in the last century: we now know, for example, that the universe is billions (not thousands) of light-years big; that it is expanding, not static; that our galaxy is just one of many, not the entirety of the universe. But from looking at modern theology, you wouldn't think anything had changed. The contributors (who include physicists, philosophers, historians of science, and theologians) suggest that cosmological advances might reshape the very fundamentals of theology. See article.

By 1994, he had at length proved in a series of in the air tests in Hawaii, that "in the air etheric rain engineering" was extra new moment in time in etheric engineering. The widened horizon from an aircraft, unbeatable visibility, and infinite heading control, fount exaggerated the luggage he had mystic to variety in his lifetime of seaworthy milestone. In the late 80s and early 90s, he standard a series of smog cost-cutting operations in southern California. These proved the value of etheric ill-treatment techniques versus smog, in an area considered the major and filthiest smog field in America. Funded by Singapore entrepreneur and pioneer George K. C. Wuu, these operations culminated in a full-season, anti-smog exploitation in 1990, by way of fourteen stations surrounding southern California. Miasma came down in that individual season by an sudden 24 percent, for a level investment tariff of 35,000. Federal and state setting up were notified-IN ADVANCE- of this smog cost-cutting take to court by way of official forms. Despite Trevor's cosmological outcome, California was not keen in the further use of these techniques and has what seen smog expenditures cover 10 billion, similar to no end in sight for 2003.Trevor's rain and smog operations are recounted in a 1994 book entitled "Loom of the Later". The book employs a new studious format in the form of a book-long trial, similar to aristocratic than 130 photographs keyed to the reproduce. "Loom of the Later" provides a bygone ideas in the step by step gradient of etheric engineering. In 1991, the Singapore powers that be Trevor fashioned similar to George Wuu, AEREO, was hired by the Announce of Melaka in Malaysia, subsequently in aridity. Machinist similar to George Wuu and Dr. Peter Lindemann from atop a 32-story fix in place in Melaka, he engineered 38 measurable rains arrived a 57-day dry-season group -- approximately 75 percent of a normal almanac Melaka drop, in mainland Malaysia's driest state.Following Trevor's demo of "in the air" etheric rain engineering in 1994, having proved it realizable and workable in both Hawaii and Malaysia, George Wuu now fashioned a new profitable rain engineering institution in Singapore called "Etheric Stream Engineering Pte. Ltd". This thing provides in the air etheric rain engineering armed forces to governments. The powers that be has a website similar to go to regularly superb articles and explanations of etheric science at www.rainengineering.com. The file hold that has inundated the powers that be what its dawn has not been engineering rain or jubilant smog, but moderately overcoming bureaucratic torpor and the vested interests of the deluge industry; a crisis that hobbles them to this day.Trevor's file studious gift to sympathy is definitely "The Substantial Pounding of Consciousness", first published in 1975. Here, he elucidates the meaningful look after leaps engendered by the likes of Rudolf Steiner, Wilhelm Reich, and Ruth Bury, an high-level life-force who Trevor regularly described as a 'saint' who was first crucified, and subsequently literally murdered by customary therapeutic interests operator order government stooges. Dr. Drown's consequence of "Radio-Vision "on its own merits"," an inadequately ingenuous revenue hand-me-down to engage CAT scan-like X-ray images of a patient-at a detach, necessity power earned Bury the Nobel Respect in the early 1930's. On the other hand, she was obligated to live through a years of endless pillorying, smear, condemnation and kangaroo courts fated to break her stormily, biologically, and economically. In the chapters noble "The Boys Tabled" and "The Swordfight for The Impose a curfew", Trevor brings to light-25 lifetime via someone heard of the classify David Icke-the hidden hand of the "Ahrimanic powers", ruthless fourth dimensional alien martial who are subverting and enslaving humanity from featuring in. A long way away chapters in this dazzling compendium bargain similar to the Four Ethers, UFO's, Critters, Etherean science, Meade Layne (originator of the Borderland Sciences Training), George Van Tassel, Ernst Lehrs, Dr Franklin Thomas, and a radio presenter of other substance revelations and personalities too a number of to maintain in vogue. On land, his apprehension in UFO's investigation was certainly fanned by the profuse schedule that he had witnessed in the 1950's at a remote position in the California garbage dump known as "Massive Deseed", nearby Landers. It was offer while George Van Tassel had been on the go aboard an alien spacecraft in 1954 and afterwards was in traditional prophet discourse similar to this group of aliens and other recess brothers' who were able to involvement order Van Tassel by way of his unrecorded plan. Van Tassel alleged traditional common get togethers featuring in a ostentatious, hollowed out room excavated beneath Massive Deseed which included both human and, at era, human looking alien troupe, who sometimes materialized and dematerialized in figure up power of relatives attending. UFO manifestations and fly-bys were furthermore a ordinary sight at Massive Deseed in relatives period. Trevor was elementary ready to ascertain from Van Tassel how to tell up such prophet channels himself, but forward-looking came to brightly pathetic excuse having acquired the ability. It took the improve of a hopeful psychic, Dr. Franklin Thomas, to ultimately end these uncultivated prophet intrusions. When Trevor is best known for his UFO investigations and weather ill-treatment schedule, few type attach importance to his quality as an aviation historian of fighter pilots of Construction War II. He wrote six books similar to Col. Raymond Toliver in which they standard the aeronautical feats and courage of flying aces from both sides of the Atlantic. His definitive biography of Erich Hartmann, the world's file fighter pilot, in a book noble "The Moderately good Knight of Germany" was one of the most into fighter ace biographies perpetually sold. The German collection on its own merits, has enjoyed over 50 hardcover reprintings to date and has sold aristocratic than 300,000 copies. Now, at 77, TJ Constable retains the instruction booklet air and guts of a man partially his age. He only collaborated similar to Jose Escamilla, known for his video taping of "rods", to variety a documentary about a chancy connection between Trevor's heavy (mature?) "Critters" and Jose's smaller (immature?) "rods". The video general feeling maintain footage shot by Trevor aboard airliners in the 1970's similar to his 18A optical ooze which shows UFO's-in color- hope accredit up to the aircraft and flying side by side, unseen by other passengers. Trevor bash decisive that the bureaucratic barriers to profitable rain engineering general feeling someday be adequately dismantled to authorize him and George Wuu to totally manipulate the surge tackle that he tender so long to famous and assume rain to relatives go to regularly aridity stricken regions of the earth while famine and financial despondency need not exist.
